Hidden fees and rising utility costs have placed a growing financial strain on households across Baltimore, making it harder for families to afford basic necessities. Expanding the state-level customer relief fund and pushing BGE to reduce operational costs would provide immediate, meaningful relief by lowering monthly energy bills, especially for working families and seniors. No one in Baltimore should ever be forced to choose between staying warm and staying financially stable. However, short-term relief alone is not enough, and a sustainable long-term solution must include expanding access to renewable energy. Investing in solar, wind, and other energy sources will lower costs over time, create local jobs, strengthen energy infrastructure, and ensure more affordable and reliable power for every household.
